The database layer is used to store all company data and consists of the database management system (DBMS) and the data itself. In every NetWeaver system there is a database server on which the SAP database is located. It provides all other applications with the necessary data. The data is not only data tables, but also applications, system control tables and user data. All basic components ensure that the user has fast and reliable access to this data.
The definition, organisational structure as well as the naming of the SAP basis is historically conditioned by previous SAP software versions and components. This also results in the perception of the SAP basis and the related focus of the SAP NetWeaver and the ABAP system core, which is still widely used today. However, the scope of activities has changed significantly in terms of tasks and technology and will continue to change in view of SAP's perspective and product strategy and the changing roles of IT. In order to accommodate this change and to change perceptions both in the overall context of the SAP ecosystem and within its own company, the SAP basis must develop a new self-understanding and establish a marketing for the publication of its own performance. Basis includes a client/server architecture and configuration, a relational database management system (DBMS), and a graphical user interface (GUI). In addition to interfaces between system elements, Basis includes a development environment for R/3 applications, a data directory, and user and system administration and monitoring tools.
Once the UPL is activated, you can access the usage data as follows: Solution Manager: BW Query 0SM_CCL_UPL_MONTH (other predefined Querys available) Managed System: Report /SDF/SHOW_UPL Based on the UPL's data collection, you can now use additional functionalities of the CCLM to depick, for example, proprietary developments that are unused for a long time.
